If your venue has a wedding coordinator, do you need a wedding planner? What is the difference between a venue-wedding planner and an independent planner? This blog post highlights some of the differences in the two roles. Depending on the complexity of your wedding and how much help you need during the planning process you may need both. I work with some fabulous venues and my role is to work side by side the venue with your best interests at heart, in order to give you the best wedding day.
What a venue coordinator does?
Your venue planner has a really important role, and will typically liaise with you on elements specific to the venue. They will do venue show rounds, ensure all health and safety requirements are followed and do the tasting if they have in-house catering. They will likely give you a list of recommended suppliers for you to get in touch with yourselves. They may offer suggestions to match your requirements, but these won’t be suppliers tailored to you. They will create a function sheet and most venue coordinators will be there on the day – but some may depart after the wedding breakfast has been served, leaving an operations manager in charge.
It is worth noting that venue wedding coordinators will also be looking after numerous weddings back to back, so you and your day can’t be their sole focus. Venue coordinators won’t usually be able to guide you through every element of planning, whereas most planners, myself included, only take on a certain number of clients a year in order to provide a truly personal service and ensure your wedding turns out exactly as you envisage.
What an independent wedding planner does?
As an independent wedding planner I would take on all elements of your day and support you throughout every aspect of the planning. This would include wedding admin such as creating detailed timelines, floor plans and help manage your budget, sourcing and liaising with suppliers that I have handpicked for you, helping with your wedding stationery and managing your RSVP’s. On the day, I will be with you until the end of the night and always come equipped with an extensive on-the-day emergency kit for every eventuality!
I offer wedding design and styling as part of my service, and this is perfect if you are wanting a wedding that reflects you and your personality and not just another wedding that the venue hosts multiple times a week. If you have a dream vision in mind for your wedding, I will share your vision to make it a reality.
I hope this has helped if you are a bit confused about the different roles. If you do feel like you need an independent wedding planner then I would love to hear from you and chat through your wedding day vision. You can contact me here.
